Sonia Meier, resident since 1993. Dec. 17 work session was very disturbing. This is not a small town where the good ole boys make the rules/laws as things pop up. However, it appears that not everyone has access/knowledge to what they are. In this case, they did research, seeked out the advice & legal actions required for STR prior to purchasing a the property. They have proof of the information they got from the city’s staff. They purchased & did major renovations. Now the city says that they looked at the wrong map. Clearly you have to many maps & even your own staff don’t know which is correct. There is a flaw with this system – but this is the city’s issue & not the property owners. I support that the owners should be granted approval to operate as a STR for as long as they own the property. The idea suggested of them selling is absurd and should never have been suggested. The city is clearly at fault & until they get it right, the property owners should not be penalized.

My husband and I are new residents of Dunedin we’ve contacted the city on an issue already & were very pleased with the response but this situation is very troubling. When speaking to city staff, the public needs to feel confident that we will be provided the correct information. The home owner states he even took a picture of the screen the city employee showed him and then to have the city come back and say basically “it doesn’t matter, code is code”. This is extremely troublesome and I feel would be downright unethical if these property owners are not allowed to continue w the STR. I support the property owners and am urging the city to not only to do the right thing but to ensure staff communicates correct information to customers.

My name is Melissa Cumings and I am a Duneden resident. I have heard about the settlement and I am very disappointed on how shady and unprofessional the city has been. I am approving the settlement agreement based on the miscommunication and lack of information. Also based on the city employees lack of knowledge and more importantly placing a short term rental map on a public website, without substance. I approve this settlement!!
