I believe now more than ever that the city commission doesn’t adequately represent its constituency. The majority of Dunedin voters are working class and working for a living. They don’t have the luxury of attending 9am city meetings because they have to put food on their tables and rooves over their heads. I’m also extremely frustrated at the commissions lack of due diligence and continued reliance upon consultants to tell them what to do and still not being able to make timely decisions. Therefore, as a qualified voter in the city of Dunedin under section 5.06 of our charter I make a motion that we change the city charter to encompass unique districts using the geographical boundaries from the recent visioning study and creating new commissioner seats. Requiring that the commissioner that represents each district also live in that district. I believe this will go a long way in moving the commission forward and ensuring that the interests of constituents are better represented.
