I love how the sculpture is sited as the approach to the new “wave” building and how the mirror polished stainless steel is not only practically maintenance free, but that it allows visitors to see themselves as well as our beautiful blue skies in a glance. As a grandparent with a new toddler, I’m pleased that our children will be drawn to their reflections without even understanding that they are themselves drops in the sculpture’s conceptual ocean. I’m reminded of Chicago’s Cloud Gate (The Bean) which similarly reflects visitors to Millennium Park. And while the plaza before City Hall that will house the sculpture is of a different scale—and our government offices are unlikely to be a tourist draw, the title’s double meaning is a perfect invitation for citizens and visitors to identify with Satoro’s inspirational quote. I certainly hope that the quote is included in all informational materials regarding Mr. Satow’s splendid sculpture.
