While we should all be sensitive to the recent development in code enforcement. There are a couple of elements that these ordinance changes do not address. In the past, there was a large business that owed a large sum of code fines while bidding to do business with the city. To prevent a recurrence, we need to mandate that any entity who is bidding on or who is doing work for the city is ineligible for any type of code enforcement fine reduction. As well, in our procurement policy, any business who owes outstanding code enforcement fines must pay those fines by the time they are due or suffer severe financial penalties and or having their contracts revoked. These policy mechanisms would prevent any appearance of impropriety and help better protect taxpayer monies.
