I am not against the dredging, but it should not be approved without a plan for how to deal with all the boats in slips and that plan put in front of the slip holders. If the marina is self funding, the slip holders need to see the plan and approve the plan. They might not like it, but at least they need to know what the plan is and be giving time to make arrangement if necessary.
On a second point, it was stated at the marina advisory meeting that the dredging requirement were made without taking into account the Feb2020 Dunedin assessment for future sea level rise. This requirements for amount of dredging should take into account future sea level rise. Potentially less material needs to be removed which could/should result in lower costs and shorter time impacts.
I am a slipholder; I'm requesting that the dredging activity be delayed as a result of the pandemic. The impacts of the virus to both citizens and businesses have been extensive. Many people have lost their jobs & others are going through stressful times even if they've kept their jobs; the downtown businesses have seen a significant impact. It would be nice to not add to the impacts by taking on a large project that will result in people having to figure out where to put their boats and move them at a time when we are supposed to be socially distancing and avoiding unnecessary activities! Also, it'd be good to leave the marina in good shape for the nearby businesses who will likely be trying to get back on their feet at the same time dredging activities will be taking place. Delaying it can also give us the option to spend the money on virus recovery should we need to - don't know if we will or not since we're not at the peak of it, but would be nice to have the option if need be.
