am trying to leave a comment for the Action item regarding Sylvia Earle's property at 527 New York Avenue.
I am the director of the Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Concentration at the Patel College of Global Sustainability at USF Tampa where I teach, among other things, Sustainable Tourism and classes in Systems Thinking (the Food Energy Water Nexus) and I am a National Geographic Explorer who has had the privilege of working with Dr. Earle for a decade.
The fines being levied on her property for "out of compliance vegetation" cause us in the Academic community unimaginable disappointment and concern.
Our college has been working with the city of Dunedin for years now on ways to help the city achieve its stated and laudable goal of being a best practice model for sustainability and green tourism.
The punishment of Dr. Earle for growing native wildflowers contradicts everything we have been teaching and praising Dunedin for and damages the reputation of the city.
