As a Dunedin resident of 21 years, I would like to express my support for local businesses in allowing outdoor dining after 11:00 during the week and after midnight on weekends. If there are no amplified sounds, then it is simply the loud minority opposing the silent majority. As I am sure you will see tonight, there is a lot more opposition to sending our patrons and residents inside at 11 PM. Where does it end, can we send in our residents at 11 PM as well? I understand that is a leap, but it is a slippery slope. If you moved downtown and did not do the research, that is your problem. We already deal with too many special interests for development and lawyers that cause far too many issues to name. Let Dunedin remain as it is, a great place to live, work, and play.

What was the purpose of creating a vibrant downtown area ? The city invested so much into advertising and tourism promotion to draw people from all over the world to our little city. Why bother if the sidewalks are going to roll up at 11:00 pm? Years of effort was put into making downtown Dunedin a destination, why move backwards?

I oppose any further any changes to the outdoor noise ordinance in the downtown business district. I moved here 7 years ago for the vibrant night life and originality of Dunedin and would hate to see it ruined be this modification.

We oppose any changes to the outdoor music ordinance and believe it will adversely affect us. As it is, we can hear loud music in our home on Main ST. until 10:00PM. We also have a vacation rental in our building and are often asked how late the music plays. Most people are fine with 10PM but 11:00PM will keep people from sleeping. It is impossible to sleep when the outdoor music is playing. It will also negatively affect our business! We have no objection to indoor music at anytime.

I am NOT in favor of forcing business clientele to go inside at 11:00. There is already a noise ordinance; this is all that is needed to keep from bothering residents. Additional restrictions to force citizens indoors against their will and to keep businesses from using their full facilities when there is no noise unnecessarily restricts rights of both citizens and businesses and adversely impacts income of local employees. It’s effectively a curfew which is an intrusion, and, I fail to see what problem it’s solving. Laws/ordinances should be minimal and specific to a problem. If someone is sitting quietly outside, a curfew is nothing but an unnecessary restriction of rights on where you are allowed to be. If someone isn’t quiet, the noise ordinance should cover it; if there’s some other issue, address that problem specifically - not with a broad reaching curfew.

As a life-long resident, 66 years, and a former business owner who spent 20 years helping to build the downtown into what it is today, I hope the notice to vacate will not be enforced when the business complies with the rule. I completely support the businesses of downtown and hope they can continue to thrive as they should. The city manager clarification of sound ordinance is correct as I was on the original drafting committee for that ordinance.

I work in the downtown Dunedin business district and I support the proposed drafts of the outdoor hospitality ordinance and noise ordinance. As a bartender who has worked in the Downtown for almost 4 years, I️ believe this could effect the livelihood of my patrons as well as my own.

As a Dunedin resident I would like to express my support for local businesses in allowing outdoor dining after 11:00 during the week and after midnight on weekends. I do not believe the notice to vacate should be enforced when a business complies with the 65DB rule, as it would hurt tourism and negatively impact our local economy. Part of what makes our city great is the wonderful outdoor dining/patios. People don’t want to be forced inside, especially when the weather is beautiful. I think restricting outdoor dining and patio spaces (that are maintaining the 65 decibel ordinance) will significantly affect the vibrant atmosphere that most have come to love about Dunedin. I hope the city will allow us to continue to have freedom to be outside if we choose.
    Thank you

I’ve lived in Dunedin almost my entire life and in the center of our core downtown business district for 10+ years. We moved here because we love the vibrant and lively atmosphere. My daughter hadn’t even turned 1yr when we moved to our current residence. “Never wake a sleeping baby!” Yet, noise has never been an issue or concern. I believe 65 decibels is more than an appropriate noise level that can be tolerated by residents. I support local business and their right to allow patrons to sit on patios located on their own private property after 11pm. Taking this right away from local late night establishments will not only negatively impact them but also other establishments that close before 11pm. For example, restaurants may see a decline in celebratory dinner party reservations when people become aware that they can no longer continue their celebrations into the evening in the same way they once did. Residents and tourists deserve the right to be outside after 11pm if they so choose.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday should be midnight. The more restrictive you make it to run a business in this town, the less businesses we will have. 65dB is as loud as a conversation. I do not believe the notice to vacate should be enforced when a business complies with the 65DB rule, as it would hurt tourism and negatively impact our local economy.
