2.b) First Reading of Ordinance 22-02 - Approving and Authorizing the Execution of a Development Agreement between the City of Dunedin and Grant Street Partners Dunedin LLC, successor in interest to Coastal ICF Construction Services Inc., Grant Street Partners LLC, and Kelly Long Choi as Trustee of the Kelly Long Choi Revocable Trust for The J Hotel at 491 and 469 Causeway Blvd.
The existing crosswalk with added safety measures should be sufficient. I propose installing the traditional red/green/yellow lights used at all crosswalks.
The congestion and numerous accidents at the intersection of Alt. 19 and the Causeway certainly call for better traffic management in that area, and this hotel is going to add to that problem. I agree with David Pauley's concern about putting in another crosswalk that would go from the hotel to Frenchy's. Why can't they make the existing crosswalk safer? As it is there are many turnoffs and a couple of crosswalks on Causeway Blvd., and frustrated drivers on their way to the beach often blast through without any regard for the rules of the road. I witnessed it today around 11am; granted it's a beautiful day, but it's midweek. Driving, walking and biking is even riskier on the weekend, It's important to keep the team members safe just as we need to do all possible to keep EVERYONE safe. Hopefully decisions will be based on the greater good.
Although I felt Dormitory should of been at the training facility……what is being proposed (except for crosswalk) seems like the only option left. I very much poise an additional crosswalk as it appears to be self serving for one restaurant. If you lived on the causeway you would understand why three crosswalks are enough. To put in a fourth would make it a nightmare. I hear talk of replacing the crosswalk by the shopping center with one in front of Frenchy’s. Now you would have self serving crosswalk. What would you think if you were one of the five owners of eating establishments in the shopping center. No matter how you handle this players would have to cross two crosswalks to get to Publics. Repositioning crosswalk makes no sense, nor does adding anther to the already….one lane, two lane, one lane bottle NECKS we now have. Please leave the crosswalk issue alone.
